Dr. C. Raja Babu Chinniah is an Associate Professor of Crop Physiology at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Kudumiyanmalai, under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). With over fifteen years of experience in teaching, research, and extension education, he specializes in Nutrient Physiology and Dryland Agriculture. He began his professional career as an Assistant Plant Physiologist at the Central Coffee Research Institute, Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, before joining TNAU. Over the years, he has served in several important teaching, research, and extension positions across Tamil Nadu, including Regional Research Station, Vridhachalam; Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Regional Research Station, Aruppukottai; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sirugamani, Tiruchirappalli; and Sugarcane Research Station, Sirugamani. As Programme Coordinator at Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Virudhunagar and Tiruchirappalli districts, Dr. Raja Babu successfully led numerous farmer-oriented extension programmes, training activities, and technology dissemination initiatives for the benefit of the farming community. Dr. Raja Babu obtained his B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree from Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, and completed his M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. in Crop Physiology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has coordinated and implemented several externally funded projects supported by ICAR, NABARD, World Bank, IFFCO, and the Government of Tamil Nadu in the fields of climate-resilient agriculture, natural farming, integrated farming systems, nutrient management, and sustainable crop production technologies. An active scientific writer and extension communicator, Dr. Raja Babu has authored books, manuals, scientific papers, extension literature, and regional language books for the benefit of farmers and students. He has also written more than 500 popular agricultural articles in Tamil newspapers, magazines, and farm journals, and continues to write regularly to simplify scientific knowledge for farmers, rural youth, and agricultural students. His key strength lies in blending scientific principles with real-life farming experiences, making complex physiological concepts simple, practical, and easy to understand. He strongly believes that agricultural education should not remain confined to classrooms and laboratories, but must directly benefit farmers and society. Dr. Raja Babu has received several recognitions and awards for his contributions to agricultural extension, scientific writing, technology dissemination, and farmer welfare, including the Extension Service Excellence Award, Best Performer Award, and Lifetime Writer Award.
